Instead of relying primarily on the filter element to capture particles, MST uses the patented MST Particle Discharge Principle: a flow-directing principle that drives particles away from the central filter element, towards the outer wall of the filter housing and then out through the discharge outlet. This relieves the central filter element, supports reliable flow and allows separated particles to be discharged from the filter housing quickly and effectively. The MST principle can be applied across multiple filter configurations.

Why conventional filters reach their limits
Conventional particle filters retain particles in the filter element. As soon as the system starts operating, particle build-up begins. Over time, this build-up can saturate the filter element. This can restrict flow, increase the pressure drop across the filter and eventually require cleaning or replacement.
Because particle build-up is inherent to conventional filter designs, many systems rely on additional cleaning mechanisms, larger filter surfaces or removable filter elements to manage saturation. These measures can add complexity, increase filter size and still require the system to be stopped for cleaning or maintenance. Other separation solutions can be large, costly or inefficient.
For applications where reliable flow is important, this creates practical challenges that directly affect system operation: maintenance interruptions, higher operating costs, recurring consumable filter replacement and additional waste.
MST was developed to address these limitations by changing the way particles are separated and discharged.
The filter element as a final barrier
How MST Filters work differently
Inside an MST Filter, particle separation and discharge are controlled by the MST Particle Discharge Principle. A flow-directing plate with hollow openings directs the liquid flow, creating a strong circular movement inside the main filter housing. This circular movement separates particles from the liquid flow before they reach the central filter element and enables them to be discharged from the housing.
This circular flow carries particles towards the inner side of the outer wall of the filter housing, rather than allowing them to build up in the central filter element. The main particle separation function is therefore performed by the MST principle itself, relieving the central filter element and supporting reliable flow, thereby tackling one of the main challenges particle filters face: saturation.
The separated particles remain in the outer zone of the housing and are discharged through the discharge outlet when the discharge valve is opened. As the MST rotating-flow system does not depend on particle size, this applies across particle sizes.
Filtered liquid passes through the central filter element. Particles that may escape the circular flow are retained by the filter element as a final barrier, helping prevent any remaining particles that may escape the rotating flow from entering the filtered-liquid outlet.
Where desired, the MST CoreJet system can clean the filter element from inside the central filter element. When activated, MST CoreJet releases a targeted internal water pulse through the filter element, helping release particles that may occasionally become trapped in the filter openings.
